Mid Century Modern (MCM) Furniture Auction

Friday, 22 March 2024 | Danielle Cleary Events

We have curated a beautiful collection of Mid Century Modern (MCM) furniture which auctions on Evans Hastings Valuers and Auctioneers (EHVA)

Mid Century Modern is a very broad term for both furniture and object ’de art that were made between 1950 and 1970.

There are many subset categories within those dates including magazine covers, artwork, lamps etc. Not all furniture and art from that time holds the status of being iconic or Mid-Century Modern. At EHVA, we specialise in showcasing high-quality fine and decorative arts, antiques, jewellery, furniture, and collectibles from the 20th century. Our online marketplace dedicates itself to connecting discerning sellers and buyers with prestigious designs.

Don't be late, buy one of these popular auction items now to add a timeless statement piece to your home. If you are looking to add a large MCM piece to your décor such as a classic Parker sideboard or a Galaxy Swivel Lounge Chair by Alf Svensson, as pictured below, be sure to place your bid today on this coral beauty!

We are fortunate to find a great piece by Yngve Ekstrom, a master of Scandinavian modern style like Alf Svensson. Both these designers were particularly active from 1950 to 70’s.  Their work embodies the simplicity of Scandinavian mid-century, modern style.  Frequently made of plastic but Svensson also worked with a range of organic materials.

Numerous mid century quality items are for sale, including a mantle clock. The mantle clock was traditionally placed on the shelf or mantle above the fireplace and I guess we all remember these from Grandma’s house.

Other specialist collectables include a collection of cameras and a superb red Valentine typewriter. The "Rossa Portatile" was released in 1969. It was famous for its Italian design, won awards, and was portable, symbolising freedom and usefulness.  It even starred in Kubrick’s “A Clockwork Orange” (1971).

Fun fact: did you know that Tom Hanks has more than 250 typewriters in his personal collection? Typewriters are the subject of his book “Uncommon Type” and his movie “California Typewriter '', according to the reviews, it is ‘a thought provoking movie about the interface between humans and technology’. Buy it now before Mr Hanks snaps it up!

In need of some retro fun? check out the delightful Murano Glass style clown figurines.

Murano's 'The Happy Clown' collection was inspired by a glass piece made in 1964 by Fratelli Pitau, a family-owned company.  These extraordinary colourful glass sculptures will bring whimsy and delight to any interior space.

The Italian brothers were master glass blowers who wanted to offer a sanctuary of beauty to the world.  They didn’t want to design sculptures, rather design their dreams, start your collection or gift a friend – a Happy Clown is sure to bring a smile!

Evans Hastings Valuers and Auctioneers (EHVA) use the ALLBIDS platform for auctions. They sell private collections, estate, and home contents regularly. They also have special curated auctions every week, every two months, every three months, and for specific items.  Our staff have the knowledge and experience to assist with the successful consignment and sale of your items.
